Creativity blooms in Perth
With its laid-back but vibrant lifestyle, Perth’s creative industries are unique, nimble and thrive on both a national and international level. In music, performing arts, film, TV production, advertising, architecture, digital content and publishing, the creative sector is growing and the central city is home to some of the most creative minds in the country.
More than 90% of Western Australia’s creative workforce is located in Perth, with a third of these choosing the central city as the place to locate their business. This has facilitated ‘creative clusters’ in certain parts of the city, where low barriers to entry and high levels of cultural and urban amenity combine to encourage co-location of creative sector businesses.
The sector has continued its strong growth, with an average annual growth rate of 3.2%. The state’s software and digital content sector experience the highest average annual growth rate of 5.3%, followed by architecture and design, which grew at an average annual rate of 4.8% over a five year period.
The City of Perth places a high value on attracting and retaining creative businesses within the city and supports the industry through a range of initiatives.
